DESAM teams, which are currently inspecting the ongoing HSSLC examinations, detected wide spread use of unfair means in many exam centres, said DESAM education secretary Pukhrambam Premchandra.
Speaking in a press conference held this afternoon at DESAM head office, the education secretary said that a team of police commandos not only slapped the van driver who was with a DESAM inspection team but also abused the DESAM volunteers at Mayang Imphal.
Narrating the incident, Premchandra said that an inspection team of the students' body recovered two guide books from the verandah and toilet of Tomchou Higher Secondary School, private centre of Mayang Imphal.
But teachers of the said centre requested the DESAM team to leave the guide books there, he said.
In exchange, Premchandra said, the teachers promised to incur the charge of the van hired by the inspection team.
Upon refusal by the DESAM team, there were some argument between the teachers and the visiting students, he said adding that suddenly, a team of police commandos appeared in the scene and started abusing the DESAM volunteers.
One of the police commandos even slapped the van driver of the team, he added.
Regarding other exam centres, Premchandra said that DESAM volunteers caught two students using unfair means at Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School.
The team also came across a candidate using xerox copy of admit card, he added.
The education secretary further said that a chaotic scene could be seen at Model Higher Secondary School, Takyel when a DESAM team reached the exam centre.
The candidates were trying to throw away their respective paper notes in the window, he added.
Premchandra said that invigilators were seemingly gave some relaxation in Biramangol College and Liberal College as well.
Taking part in the press conference, DESAM general secretary Moirangthem Angamba Meitei said that messy look of chits could be visible at the verandahs of Presidency College and Damdei Christian College.
He also urged upon all concerned to extend support in curbing use of unfair means in the State.
It may be mentioned that 21 DESAM inspection teams comprising of five members each in a team are being pressed into action to look out 33 exam centres in four valley districts.
