Imphal, March 08, 2010:
Allegations of serious anomalies and errors have been raised in connection with the question paper of English subject of the Higher Secondary examination being conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM).
English teacher of Sangai Higher Secondary School, Ph Gajendra said that question no 2 which read Answer the following questions in about 25 words, should be answered in about 30-40 words as per the curriculum given by the COHSEM.
Even as question no 3 read Answer the following extract with reference to the context in about 60 words, no question was given below it.
Again the instruction given against question number 4 to answer in about 25 words is incompatible with the curriculum given by COHSEM.
The question should be answered in about 30-40 words, Gajendra said.
Referring to question number 4 (B) What does 'the prize we sought in won' mean here ?, he pointed out that 'in' should be 'is'.
Again in unit four which was categorised as reading unseen passages, the passage given was an extract from the prose 'Sinking of Titanic'.
As the name of the category suggests, the passage should have been something unseen or unfamiliar to the students, he said.
According to the Council's curriculum, question on letter writing should be on business letter or letter to the editor or application for job; personal letter writing cannot be asked.
But question number 11 asks for personal letter.
Although essay writing has been removed from the curriculum two years back, question number 12 asks for essay.
He lamented that setting questions incompatible to the Council's curriculum for the exam conducted by the same council has caused much confusion to students and teachers alike.
