RPF pulled up one Phundreimayum Yunus Khan (27) s/o Siraj Udin of Lilong Chingkham Makha Dam along with 600 leaves of mitha mana when he was on his way to sell the banned item at Samurou Bazar at about 9 pm yesterday.
According to the statements of Yunus Khan, the betel leaves were bought from one Janabudin of Lilong Atoukhong who brought it from Dimapur, conveyed a spokesperson of the proscribed RPF.
As RPF informed the local people about the presence of 150 number of betel leaves at the shop opened at his home as disclosed by Yunus Khan, the local people burnt the betel leaves and other articles found in the shop.
Appreciating the voluntary act of destroying the banned items harmful to health, the outfit hailed the initiative of the people of Lilong Chingkham.
The spokesperson warned Janabudin to surrender to the outfit within five days failing which he will be awarded severe punishment.
As Yunus Khan has confessed his fault, he will be handed over to family members after he furnishes a written assurance that he will accept whatever punishment is given in case he deals in banned products again.
