Sunday traders celebrate

Noting contribution by the small time traders to the State's overall economy despite those involved in such commercial ventures facing problems related to absence of basic infrastructure, Uripok assembly constituency MLA L Nandakumar Singh desired that a viable scheme for their welfare and business expansion be put in place.
Attending the 3rd foundation day celebration of Sunday Market Street Vendors' Welfare Association at manipur Press Club today at the chief guest, MLA Nandakumar strongly advocating a proper mechanism for systematic trading in Manipur.
Conceding naivety on the prevailing business trend in the State but maintaining that micro business continuous to be the dominant feature of trading in Manipur, he reiterated proposal for a policy to protect trade right.
Addressing the gathering, Association president S Manitomba said Sunday Market traders would welcome a policy to check security personnel frequently harassing the street vendors who are toiling to survive.
Mostly dealing in 'second hand' garments, Manitomba highlighted that Sunday market street vendors have to currently withstand adverse weather conditions in order to earn a respectable livelihood.
In addition to the Association members, the celebration was also attended by Imphal Municipal Council's Bazar Committee chairperson S tiken Singh, Deputy Labour Commissioner Elangbam Tomba Singh, former IMC chairperson N Raghumani Singh and IMC Ward No.21 Councillor Ksh Umesh.
