Imphal, April 26 2013 :
Maintaining that many non-locals have been living in the State with assumed names and aliases, concealing their identity, Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) has cautioned landlords to let their houses only to those tenants with genuine proof of identity.
FREINDS has also urged the concerned authority to verify the identity of non-locals before issuing documents like driving licences.
Speaking to reporters today at its office, secretary of FREINDS, Joy Chingakham urged all concerned to keep strict vigil on non-locals.
This alert has been sounded following an incident that occurred today wherein a non-local mobile trader was found with different names in two different identity cards held by him.
Joy narrated that a non-local trader was rounded up by womenfolks of Khongman Mangjing Leikai due to some offensive acts today.
An identity card issued by the Election Commission of India and a driving licence issued by the State authorities, seized from him to establish his identity, did not bear the same name though he holds both, Joy said.
Cautioning all concerned against the presence of such dubious persons in the State whose motive is not known, the FREINDS secretary said that persons with many identities/names could easily escape from the State in the event of such persons committing crimes in the State.
He further regretted that such incidents surfaced in the light of the indifferent attitude of the Govt to the demands for implementation of ILPS and proper screening of non-locals in the State.
