Chakanlong demands halt to power line work

Chakanlong (Charoichagotlong) Peidai in a statement issued by its chairman Kaphunsinpou urged the Power Grid Corporation of India and Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district not to continue the construction work of transmission line until an amicable solution is brought between the officials of Power Grid, SDO Nungba and villagers regarding the issue of compensation.
The statement said, "Phaomei clan is the hereditary Khunbu and Khullakpa of Chakanlong village since the establishment of the village years ago.
Not only the general public of the village but also leaders of civil societies like Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), AZSU, ZYF (AMN), chairmen and representatives of surrounding villages had endorsed the fact that when the water ordeal was held in February 2011 to decide as to who was the rightful hereditary Khunbu and Khullakpa of Chakanlong village.
Gaipuilin Phaomei (Khullakpa) and Singonglung Phaomei (Khunbu) came forward to contest the challenge at Taokuamjang water reservoir.
Manipur police of Longmai police station led by its OC in-charge and personnel of 10 AR led by its commandant P Gaurav were also present on that historic event" .
The facts had been submitted and informed to all the authorities concerned including the officials of Power Grid, Yurembam Imphal.
However, compensation of land acquired for the purpose of construction of 400 KV transmission line was pocketed by individual(s) in connivance with the official(s) of Power Grid, SDO Nungba, DC office Tamenglong without the knowledge of the Khunbu and Khullakpa, the statement said.
The statement demanded that individual(s) and official(s) of Power Grid, SDO Nungba and DC office Tamenglong, department concerned should be presented before the village Court within February 28.In case, the individual(s) and official(s) involved fail to turn up, the Khullakpa, Khunbu and general public would sought legal help in order to retrieve the pocketed money which was meant for the villagers of Chakanlong.
