Kamjong, April 23 2021:
Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association inspected road repairing work taken up in the subdivision in Kamjong district along with a media team following a complain raised by the villagers regarding shoddy quality of work.
Petei Lu, chairman, Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association told the media that the Tengoupal Shangsat Road (TS Road or NH-102A) connects Tengnoupal and Ukhrul via Shangsat.
The road was constructed by BRTF in somewhere in 1990 and currently blacktopping and repairing of this stretch is going on, he added.
However, the contractor seems to have given the work to subcontractors who have been doing a sub-standard work with only the work bill in sight, he alleged.
He also added if the contractors cannot maintain quality, they should abandon the project.
The villagers had exposed the area where they said quality was not maintained, however the contractors had hastily repaired the patches hearing about the inspection team coming with media on the spot, Petei Lu added.
Rockson A Shimray, general secretary, Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association, said the work order for blacktopping of 8kms long road to Lungthar Part-I was already released back in 2020 but the work has not been taken up until now.
He added that there was no sign of construction of drains alongside this road and it was hard to imagine how blacktopping will be done in the absence of drains.
He appealed the contractor engaged for work in this stretch to initiate and complete the work as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo clarified that the said stretch of road was left in a dilapidated condition and never been repaired following its construction by BRTF.
The villagers had even given-up hope that the road will be repaired as their call to have it repaired was never heard before, However, the present Government had taken up the initiative to repair and develop the road to meet the demand of increased volume of traffic and as the road was quite long, there were some portion where the quality was below optimal, he added.
MLA K Leishiyo added that those areas have also been identified and construction was done as per the required standard.
He appealed the public to cooperate in repairing work taken up along the road in future and also lauded the Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association for carrying out inspection.
