Tamenglong, January 16 2015 :
Even as the existing Tamenglong district hospital is lacking in basic infrastructures, the ongoing construction works of the new 50-bedded hospital at Duigailuang has become a matter of concern.
The hospital building has developed cracks while it awaits its completion.
The said building is being constructed under DRDA, but due to the lack of financial aid from the Government, its construction process is delayed.
It is said that a joint enquiry has been ordered in this regard.
Tamenglong CMO Dr Chambo Gonmei said, "As Tamenglong is listed among the ten poorest districts of India, the Central Government is willing to look into the matter.
As demanded, we have submitted the list of requirements for the functioning of the 50-bedded hospital", Gonmei said.
Once the hospital is completed, the existing district hospital would be utilized as Trauma Care Centre and medical centre for the Mini Secretariat of the district, Gonmei added.
Gonmei emphasized on the need of support from the people in the endeavour of upgrading the hospital.
The existing hospital's OT would have a blood bank, two doctors, he said and added that three technicians from JNIMS, Imphal would impart training to the staff of the hospital for about a month.
It is said that the surgeons in the OT are transferred after every two months while many expecting mothers are referred to Imphal for child delivery as the district hospital is awaiting for its gynaecologists.
"Presently, out of the required 60 doctors, only 37 are there in the district hospital", Gonmei added.
