Locals attempt to attack assault accused

Imphal, May 11 2017: Incensed locals tried to attack a man accused of assaulting his sister-in-law when he was produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Imphal West-1 at Lamphelpat today.

A large number of locals mostly women folks on receipt of information that the accused identified as Sougaijam Victor Singh (38) s/o (L) Matai of Kwakeithel Lamdong would be produced stormed the Court complex and attempted to attack the accused.

He was produced before the Court by a team of Singjamei police under FIR number 150 (5) 2017 Singjamei police station under Section 354 and 325 of Indian Penal Code.

The police prayed for judicial custody remand for the accused till May 25 .

Investigation Officer of the case submitted that on May 9 at around 6 pm, accused's elder brother Ronel submitted a report to the OC Singjamei PS alleging that his younger brother assaulted his wife namely Purnima Leima by using deadly weapons on the day at around 12.10 pm.

According to the report, the woman tried to run and alert neighbours to save herself but she was chased and assaulted by Victor.

She suffered serious injuries in the physical attack.

Later she was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The IO stated that police inspected the incident site, took photos of the injuries sustained by the woman and seized weapons used in assaulting the woman.

Perusing the prayer and after hearing submission of Assistant Public Prosecutor of the State, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till May 25.The irate locals were pushed out of the Court complex when the accused was about to be brought out of the Court.
