Imphal, May 11 2017:
PHED Minister Losi Dikho has assured that potable water would be made accessible to all the people of the State by 2019 .
He made this assurance during inspection of water supply schemes located in different areas of Wangoi Assembly Constituency today together with local MLA Oinam Lukhoi.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, all necessary measures would be taken up to ensure that potable water is accessible to the entire population of Manipur by 2019 .
Apart from inspecting water supply plants located in different areas of the State, new suitable sites would be identified for construction of new supply plants, Dikho told media persons.
Treatment of raw water by private individuals on commercial scale has been necessitated on account of the failure of Government water supply schemes to deliver their purposes.
At the same time, it is crucial to check the quality of drinking water sold by private individuals.
The Government may not be able to prohibit sale of drinking water by private individuals as it is driven by public demand but it is crucial to check whether water sold to public by private suppliers is treated scientifically.
MLA Lukhoi noted that most of the water supply plants located within his Constituency are aged and dysfunctional.
Nonetheless, he exuded confidence that the new Government would renovate and augment the water supply plants in order to ensure adequate supply of potable water to public.
