Imphal, August 10 2019:
Claiming that four volunteers of Mani-pur Students' Federation (MSF) have been hospitalised after a police team hurled smoke bombs and fired tear gas shells inside the federation's office when many volunteers were preparing for the death anniversary observation of Pebam Chittaranjan, the students' organization has condemned the police action in the strongest term.
Addressing a press meet held at their Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai office today, MSF working president Lucky Konsam asserted that a team of Manipur police hurled smoke bombs and fired tear gas shells inside their office soon after they drove away a group of Imphal College students who agitated against the mysterious death of Ning-thoujam Babysana at Tiddim Road.
Saying that some MSF volunteers were preparing for the death anniversary observation of Pebam Chittaranjan inside the office at that time, he informed that four of the volunteers have been hospitalized at RIMS after they fainted while the remaining other volunteers were affected due to inhalation of the smoke.
He then decried that the police team carried out a dastardly act by intentionally firing tear gas shells and hurling smoke bombs inside the MSF office instead of controlling the agitating students.
Alleging that the State is being put into a chaotic situation by the State Government's failure to establish the facts behind the death of Babysana, he urged the Government to do the needful, in a responsible and swift manner to deliver justice to the deceased at the earliest as well as to save the career of thousands of students who cannot attend classes due to the closure of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.
