Imphal, June 07, 2014:
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC), an umbrella body of six student organizations of the State, namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, today locked the main gate of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) office here and declared to boycott the scheduled Main exam of Manipur Combined Civil Service Competitive Exam 2014, the Preliminary test of which was held on April 24 last.
JSCC has been demanding the Government of Manipur to conduct a fresh MCS Prelim exam and hold back main exam scheduled for July 14 after as many as 16 questions asked in the Preliminary test were allegedly wrong.
Perturbed by the Government's decision to hold the MCS Main examination despite its repeated appeals for cancelling the Preliminary exam, a large number of JSCC members today tried to storm the MPSC office and locked its main gate in protest.
The angry student agitators gathered in front of the main gate of MPSC office and chanted slogans like "We demand fresh MCS Prelim exam" and "We're against holding of MCS Main exam".
They then tried to enter the office complex demanding to meet MPSC Chairman, but police commandos who were on duty foiled the attempt.
Afterwards the protestors locked the main gate using a long iron chain.
However, some of the student protestors managed to sneak into the office complex and shouted slogans.
Police had a hard time in driving them out of the campus.
A skirmish then ensued between the police and the student agitators, who were subsequently driven out of the office complex with arrival of additional police force.
JSCC convenor Th Premananda said the results of the MPSC conducted MCS Prelim exam were out on May 14 last after the Commission announced that marks for the 16 incorrect questions would be added to the total marks scored by the candidates.
He said the Commission had on May 16 declared that the wrong setting of the question papers were due to printing mistakes.
"We've submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister, Governor and MPSC Chairman demanding fresh conduct of the MCS Prelim exam.
But no response have been given till date," the student leader regretted.
"Now the only choice left is to boycott the scheduled MCS Main exam," he said.
Accusing the Chairman of MPSC of being an incompetent officer, the student leader also demanded that the Chairman be sacked from his post.
The Committee will not budge its stand until its demand is met, pledged Premananda, who also warned of of intensifying the agitation.
