Lukram James, who has played with popular football clubs of India like; Mahindra United, Salgaonkar, Churchill Brothers, Pariyag United and ING Reliance, has advised the young footballers in Manipur to watch the matches of the upcoming FIFA World Cup to learn from the international players.
We should watch the entire matches to know the playing skills of the famed international players, their techniques and positions including the skills of the coaches of different countries, James said while talking to Hueiyen Lanpao.
Comparing to other World Cup held in in the past, this time we may see many changes in this upcoming World Cup including use of new equipments, inclusion of new players and countries, etc, he pointed out.
Waking up in the middle of night to watch their desired team plying could be a problem to many of the youngsters in Manipur, but if they want to become well-known footballer in future, this is very much necessary, because this is the golden opportunity to learn the playing tactics and styles of the internationally famous players from all over the globe.
If they could not watch the live matches, they should record them for future references, James suggested.
Expressing concern over the declining popularity of football in Manipur, James noted that earlier both Manipur and Mizoram were leading football teams in India.
But today, Mizoram has gone ahead leaving behind Manipur.
So, we need to a thorough study to find out how the downfall of football especially that of Manipur has come about.
James drew the attention of the concerned authorities for ensuring power supply throughout the matches of FIFA World Cup.
Sharing his views in connection with this year's FIFA World Cup, James opined that no one can say for sure at the moment that host country Brazil would win the World Cup title.
But he is confident that defending champion Spain would strike back to lift the title this time.
James said that his favourite player is Philip Lahm of Germany.
"I used to watch the matches of the World Cup together with teammates and friends while I was outside Manipur.
I will be watching the matches with my friends in Manipur as well," he said.
