Imphal, June 07, 2014:
Demanding an immediate halt to all process of conducting the civil services main exam 2014, volunteers of the Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) have locked the entrance gate of MPSC building.
JSCC volunteers went to visit the MPSC Chairman and the Secretary today but the two officers were not found in their offices.
Enraged by the absence of the two officers at their stations, the student activists locked the gate on the ground that the MPSC office serves no purpose when the key officers are not present at the office.
Soon after the gate was locked, a tense stand-off ensued between police and the JSCC volunteers.
The volunteers also shouted many slogans like "Sack the corrupt MPSC Chairman", "Replace the tainted MPSC Secretary" etc.
There was also heated altercations between a team of Imphal West District Police and the student activists before the students left the MPSC complex shouting many slogans on the way.
JSCC convenor Th Premananda said that MPSC conducted a preliminary exam on April 24 this year for selection of Grade II officers.
After many errors were detected in the questions/answer keys, JSCC has been urging both the State Government and MPSC to abrogate the said exam and conduct a fresh exam.
However, the State Government as well as the MPSC have been acting blind and mute.
Overruling all the appeals and reminders, MPSC has completed issuing forms for conducting the main exam on July 14. Asking how could expect good governance when Grade I officers are selected through erroneous examinations, Premananda lamented that the Government has been no attention to its repeated appeals.
He went on to ask if the Government is in cahoot with the alleged corrupt officers.
He also demanded immediate replacement of both the MPSC Chairman and the Secretary.
In case the MPSC tries to browbeat its way in order to conduct the main exam, JSCC would be constrained to launch all types of intense agitation, he added.
