Thoubal, October 04 2016:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has asserted that the Congress is a secular party and does not discriminate anyone on grounds of religion.
Speaking at a political conference organised by Wangjing Tentha Block Congress Committee at Wangjing Laikol community hall today the Chief Minister said that a true leader must treat all com-munities equally and must possess strong will power.
Development will be possible only when peace prevails in the State.
The territorial integrity of the land will remain intact if the Congress party gains more strength in the State, the CM said.
He further urged the people to support the Congress party in the upcoming election.
RD & PR Minister M Okendro, who is also the spokespersons of the Congress party, said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has wrongly blamed the ruling Congress for the worsening condition of the Imphal-Jiribam highway.
He said the BJP led Government at the Centre rejected the State Government's appeal to relieve BRTF and let the State handle the project.
'Why the Centre dismissed the appeal is beyond our comprehension', Okendro said.
If the condition of Imphal-Jiribam road deteriorates, people have to take the Imphal-Dimapur road which is known to be a popular site for earning easy money by NSCN-IM.
"One wonders if the Imphal-Jiribam road project is also included in the Framework Agreement signed between the NSCN-IM and the Government of India", Okendro said.
Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi flatly refused to disclose the contents of the Framework Agreement.
BJP workers of the State, instead of making hollow statements, should go to Delhi and pressurize the Centre into releasing the contents of the Framework Agreement, added the MLA.
"We (Congress) will come give you (BJP) a warm welcome at the airport when that happens.
Also, we will step back from the upcoming election", he said.
Now, if the territorial integrity of the State is threatened, the BJP is to be blamed and not the Congress, the MLA said.
Over 8000 people including Wangjing Tentha BCC(I) president N Naral Singh, Wangjing Tentha AC MLA P Brojen and MPCC(I) leaders attended the political conference.
