Kut celebrated at Moreh

Cutting across narrow divides, colourful people of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi communities but with much enthusiasm today thronged the Galngam Lentol, Moreh in Chandel district to celebrate Kut, the biggest post-harvest festival of the communities.
Addressing the gatherings, chief guest of the celebration, Education Minister M Okendro said that the essence of Kut, which has been celebrated on Nov 1 since 1980, is to promote love, unity and peace among the people.
In line with the spirit, the Government has been putting all efforts to develop the border town Moreh, the Minister said.
Okendro said that the Chief Minister had also given his approval for setting up of a Government Polytechnic at the border town Moreh while adding that efforts are on to provide adequate staff and infrastructure to Moreh College.
He urged the denizens of Moreh to extend cooperation to the Govt's endeavour.

Speaking at the occasion, president of the function, Tengnoupal MLA, D Korungthang said Kut is not all about showcasing cultural items, but a time to unite one another, forgetting the past misunderstandings and misapprehensions.
Expressing regret over occurrence of the blast at Moreh Parking at Hicham Yaichampat that claimed three lives and injured others, Korungthang urged all concerned not to cause such incidents in future while also calling upon all concerned to coexist peacefully.
President of Border Trade Chamber of Commerce, V Shekhar was the chief host of the function while Commissioner of Education, P Vaiphei was the guest of honour.
The exuberance was added with the participation of Chin-Kuki-Mizo communities from neighbouring Myanmar.
