Buses looted

Some passenger buses were looted by unidentified armed persons at Kangpokpi, Senapati district along NH-2 in the wee hours of today.
Around 3/4 armed persons first attacked a bus by raining stones at a about 3.5 Kms South of Kangpokpi at around 3.30 am and then they looted the bus.
The armed persons robbed the passengers as well the crew of all their valuables, cash and mobile phones.
Another bus heading for Imphal from Dimapur met a similar fate sometime later, informed a source.
It is reported that unidentified persons have been collecting illegal taxes from buses and Winger taxis plying along Imphal-Dimapur route at Motbung, Keithelmanbi, Henbung, Taphou and Mao Gate.
In some cases, the unidentified persons took away spare tyres when the drivers could not pay their 'tax' .
During a special operation conducted by Senapati District Police on October 15 between Taphou and Henbung, altogether 23 tyres of heavy vehicles and nine tyres of light vehicles were recovered.
One tyre was recovered on October 20 and another tyre on October 23 from Keithelmanbi and Kanglatongbi respectively, added the source.
