Imphal, January 30 2013:
With reference to a news report published in this daily on January 30, under the caption, 'Naga militant groups to stay away from polls', United Naga Council (UNC) has said that the construction of the report made it look as if it was UNC President informing this daily about the decision on behalf of the Naga Concordant.
In a press statement, UNC said that the news report was based on the telephonic conversation with a Reporter of the daily in the afternoon of January 29, 2013 .
The press statement added, the UNC President had informed the Reporter that the decision of the three signatories of the Naga Concordant had already been reported in Nagaland media.
The statement further clarified that the opinion of the UNC President was that all political parties in Nagaland are supportive of the Indo-Naga issue and Naga integration and therefore no particular party would merit exclusive support in Nagaland on that count as was the case with Nagas in Manipur.
But the report quoted UNC President as saying that 'there is no necessity to support NPF', which was not uttered at all and has been misquoted implying a totally different meaning, the press statement said.
