Inferno reduces shops to cinders

Imphal, January 30 2013:
A ravaging inferno has reduced a rented house, a tent house and four shops to cinders at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai besides causing damages to properties worth lakhs of rupees last night.
According to information culled from the spot, the fire is believed to have originated from electric short circuit.
A grocery store and a chicken centre were reduced to ashes by the fire.
The grocery store was run by one Khundrakpam Chandrakumar (40) of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai while the chicken centre was owned by Akham Deny (36) .
A nearby battery/dynamo workshop run by Hamom Raj (36) of Tronglaobi was also destroyed by the fire.
The landlord of the three shops has been identified as Sanjay Akham.

The fire also destroyed a rented house and tent house belonging to one Akham Premjit.
Besides, the fire caused damage to a spare parts store owned by Khundrakpam Yaiphaba (30) of Kwakeithel Haorokchambi.
Source from Fire Service said that six fire tenders and a large water tanker were deployed to douse the fire.
The worth of properties destroyed in the fire could not be estimated immediately.
Kh Yaiphaba said items worth Rs 8 lakh in his store were destroyed.
