Imphal, January 30 2013:
A stark contrast between the width of roads as given in the work programme and in reality has been detected with regard to construction of a 12 km long road from Chingai to Poi and 11 km stretch of Poi to Huisu road under PMGSY phase 6 in Chingai Block, Ukhrul district.
Besides, culverts along the roads are found constructed without any retaining wall.
The matter came to light during the three-day tour of Chingai AC MLA Preshaw Shimray from January 27-29 .
Expressing strong dissatisfaction, Chingai MLA Preshaw Shimray has pledged to take the matter to the authority concerned.
The MLA, accompanied by reporters, inspected construction of roads in his constituency under the PMGSY scheme.
It was detected during the tour that the width of the roads constructed does not match with the ones given in the DPR besides the absence of retaining walls at all culverts along the roads.
Preshaw also inspected the construction works taken up by the BRO along NH-150 .
Coming across some portions of the road being constructed without maintaining quality near Shirui village, the MLA instructed the concerned officials to maintain quality.
The MLA also inspected construction of a Bailey Bridge over Challou river, which is scheduled to be completed before the onset of monsoon.
At the same time, Preshaw also assured construction of Kasturba Gandhi Bal Vidhyalay at Poi Village besides giving assurance for the upgradation of Poi Junior HS to the status of high school.
