Major General Konsam Himalay Singh, YSM, who commanded the Infantry Division in the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch area recently, has been conferred the Ati Vishist Seva Medal by the President of India.
The award has been conferred in recognition of his most distinguished service during his command of the Division along the LoC in Jamu and Kashmir, said a statement.
A graduate of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, New Delhi, the Army officer from the State has held many prestigious appointments in a career spanning over three decades.
Among the various key appointment he has held included Assistant Military Secretary and Director, Personal Policy in the Army Headquarters.

Maj Gen K Himalay, YSM, AVSM is Master in Defence Studies from Madras University; Master of Management Studies with distinction from Osmania University, Hyderabad and M Phil in Strategic Studies from Madras University.
He is the senior most serving military officer from Manipur.
Maj Gen K Himalay, YSM, AVSM is presently posted as Chief of Staff of an Active Corps.
He commanded 27 Rajput during Kargil War where he was awarded Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), a decoration awarded for leading successful operations carried out during the Kargil War.
He was also the battalion commander in the NDA, Khadakvasla.
Maj Gen K Himalay, YSM, AVSM is also a sky diver and a mountaineer, who participated in the Kanchenjunga expedition in 1987 .
He was awarded COAS commendation card thrice and Army Commander's Commendation card once in addition to the YSM.
