Imphal, August 02 2012:
Naoroibam Ningol Sorokhaibam Ongbi Sobita, who lost her right leg in the June 18 incident of 2001, would now have a new and better quality artificial limb to be donated by Dr A Vivekananda, Director of Padma Medicare.
Mentioned may be made that Sobita lost her right leg following bullet injuries during June 18 incident and she has been living without any help from the government.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Sobita said that she was very elated when she was told about a new artificial limb which she will get from Dr Vivekananda.
It was beyond her expectation that there would be such kind hearted doctors who take sympathy on condition.
While expressing her gratitude to the doctor, Sobita said that different CSOs have been extending monetary helps from time to time since she lost her leg.
However, the helps from the organisations were not enough to get her a good artificial limb.
Due to shortage of money, she used to have a sub standard artificial limb.
However, it worsens her condition as she developed more pains from using such sub-standard artificial limbs.
Accordingly, she has stopped using artificial limb altogether.
Dr Vivekananda, who is donating the artificial limb, told Hueiyen Lanpao that the artificial limb has been ordered after necessary measurements at Padma Medicare on July 31 .
The new limb would cost around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh and it would take about one month to prepare the artificial limb.
It is very unfortunate that the state government has been ignoring Sobita, who lost her leg during the course of agitation for protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur, Dr Vivekananda observed.
He further said that Padma Medicare has been conducting medical camps in connection with Hepatitis at various places of Manipur.
It will also take active role in helping orphan children to become successful persons, he added.
