It is indeed a big crime committed on the people of the state if at all the news report of State's share of fertilizer being selling outside is true.
Under such circumstances, Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir should resign on moral ground, exclaimed various political parties of the state.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, S Umananda, President of MPP said that it is very unfortunate that the fertilizer quota of the state was found sold outside when the people of the state are facing the problem of acute shortage of water and there is apprehension of drought in the state.
There are also reported cases where the farmers are provided with a 42 kg bag of Urea instead of a 50 kg bag, but at the same price.
Condemning the act of Agriculture department, Umananda charged the officials of the department with cheating the people of the state and such malpractices are against the law of the state.
The Agricultural Minister should be held responsible for this, he said, and demanded resignation of the Minister on moral ground.
Shantikumar Sharma, President of BJP, Manipur Pradesh, observed that, with news report of State fertilizer quota being sold outside the state coming up, it is becoming crystal clear that the State government is not working for the welfare of the farmers; rather it is against the interest of the framers of the state.
He asserted that if any of the officers of Agriculture Department were found involved in the crime, stern actions should be taken up against them and if the Minister himself is involved then he should resign on moral ground.
The Agriculture Minister should also clarify on the matter at the earliest and the Chief Minister should look into the matter with seriousness for initiating appropriate actions against the guilty, Shantikumar added.
Dr M Nara, Secretary of CPI, Manipur State Council condemned the act of selling off the state share of fertilizer and described it as an act of looking down on the farmers and appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter.
