Imphal, August 29 2016:
In condemnation of burning down of High Court of Manipur's Government Advocate room located inside old Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench complex, members and advocates of High Court Bar Association Manipur (HCBAM) and All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) today staged a sit-in-protest at the gate of High Court of Manipur.
Speaking to reporters, HCBAM president Kh Binoykumar said that it is highly suspicious that the room was intentionally set ablaze by some people to destroy the old case records, files and important documents.
However, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, he added.

It is highly condemnable if anybody intentionally targeted the room as it was a planned effort to sabotage and hamper the functioning of judiciary system in the State, he said.
Binoykumar further said that it could be taken as a direct challenge and attack on the judiciary system.
The authority must be blamed and it would be taken as their biggest mistake if electric short circuit turns out to be the cause of the fire, he said.
He also appealed to all concerned to extend co-operation and support to police investigation by providing whatever information and clues they have.
Saying that conduct of many pending cases would be hampered as the room had documents of even 30-year-old cases, Binoykumar urged the public in recompiling the documents.
He also urged the Government to provide security to all the Court complexes to thwart such unwanted incidents in future.
He also demanded that the culprits be arrested at the earliest.
AMBA president H Chandrajit said that the fire would paralyse the judiciary system of the State as documents of around 5000 cases were damaged.
He also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such senseless acts in future.
Advocate General Th Ibohal also took part in the sit-in-protest.
