Conveying support to the ongoing ceasework strike of All Manipur Transport Department Employees' Union against the re-posting of A Shivdas Sharma as the Deputy Director of Transport Directorate, Transporters and Drivers' council suggested that the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister do the needful for settling the issue.
Contending that the previous posting (on deputation) of Shivdas in the same post from 2010 till February this year had exceeded permissible period meant for an official on deputation, the Council in a statement issued by its general secretary Ng Haridas Singh described Shivdas as an official whose previous term in office was marked by controversies, particularly in randomly issuing permits and confrontation with transporters.
While no significant measures were taken up in the interest of the transporters, the Transport department had to face financial mismanagement accusation when Shivdas was the Deputy Director, alleged the Council and cautioned that re-appointment of the individual would further complicate the situation.
Highlighting that ceasework strike launched by the Department employees is resulting in transport operators enduring several inconveniences including non issuance of permit to ply outside the State, delay in getting fitness certificate, tax clearance and stalling of registration process, the Council drew the attention of the CM and the Minister concerned to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest possible.
Asserting that the Council do not approve re-posting of Shivdas, Haridas suggested that revocation of the Government order on Shivdas would be the easiest means to end the crisis.
