Awareness programme on ILP reaches students

The Joint Committee on Implementation of Inner Line Permit System, Manipur has organised an awareness programme for students on Extension and Adoption of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 at Lamlong Higher Secondary School today.
Organised by the Students' Wing of the Joint Committee, the programme was graced by convenor of the committee, Sapamcha Jadumani, Co-convenor Joy Chingakham and senior lecturer of the school, Brajakishore as the presidium members.
Students' Wing convenor of the committee, Moirangthem Angamba and Joy Chingakham spoke at length on the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 and Inner Line Permit System on the occasion.
Speakers of the programme mentioned that the Manipur Legislative Assembly had on July 13, 2012 adopted a resolution for the enforcement of ILP system in the State.
Besides the resolution of the Assembly being sent to the Central Government on Aug 3 last year, a delegation team of the Joint Committee had met Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on the matter of Nov 23 last year.
However, nothing positive has been done so far.
They also highlighted that the total population of non-locals in the State is 7.04 lakh as per census 2001 that contributed one third of the total population.
The speakers also said that the people should not allow any design that is seen as a move to reduce the indigenous people minority like that of Tripuri, Andamanese and Assamese.
