Poppy plantations destroyed

A combined team of Tengnoupal district police and CDO, NCB, 1st MR, 8th MR, led by Th Krishnatombi, Additional SP (Ops) Tengnoupal and officers consisting of Inspector John Lamkang, OC Tengnoupal, Inspector Dk Angrung, OC Machi PS, destroyed around 40 acres of illicit poppy plantations at the hill range of Gomi village in Tengnoupal district, today.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Th Vikramjit Singh, SP Tengnoupal district.
The combined team also destroyed around 11 acres of illegal poppy plantations at the hill range of Machi village today.
Churachandpur police also destroyed flowering poppy plants in about 50 acres of land at Tuinuphai area under Sangaikot sub-division yesterday, reports our CCpur correspondent.
The drive carried out jointly by the district police, including its women personnel; district administration, 1 IRB, 25 AR, NAB and the Forest Department was also assisted by Zomi Youth Association (ZYA) a local philanthropic organisation.
The destroyed poppy plants sources said is estimated to have the capacity to yield about 250 kgs of illicit opium.
The poppy destruction drive led by Lawrence K.Munluo, Addl.SP (Ops) CCP along with SDPO CCP Bijoykumar, Capt.
N Meetei of 25 AR, OC Sangaikot PS Elvy Tunglut, Jem Paolun Haokip of 1 IRB, SI Hitler Meetei of NAB, and the Range Officer, Forest Dept, CCP was conducted under the supervision of SP CCP.
