In view of the recent spate of bomb attacks by underground organisations at different places of the State including Government complexes, a meeting of the Combined Headquarters was held today to discuss on how to strengthen local intelligence network.
A highly placed source informed The Sangai Express that the meeting was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi and was participated by Home Minister Gaikhangam, Chief Secretary DS Poonia, Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu, DGP Y Joykumar, 3 Corps Commander Gen AK Sahani, 57 Mountain Division GOC Binoy Poonnen, IG AR (S) UK Gurung and top officers of BSF and CRPF.
They deliberated on the law and order situation in Manipur.
Taking serious note of the series of bomb attacks which targeted security forces as well as Government establishments, Chief Minister O Ibobi advised all security agencies including State forces to be extra alert.
The meeting agreed that strengthening local intelligence can neutralise the threat of bomb attacks.
Notably, a particular underground outfit had triggered bomb blasts in the security zones of Special Bureau office at Lamphel and M-Sector just North of Raj Bhavan.
A bomb was also found inside the complex of the high security Old Secretariat some time back.
The meeting also deliberated on the repeated clash between NSCN-IM, NSCN-K and ZUF in Tamenglong district.
Later, it was decided to open a new army post at Khoupum in view of the volatile situation in Tamenglong district.
The Combined Headquarters meeting also reviewed the security situation along the Imphal to Jiribam stretch of National Highway 37 as well as security of the railway work from Jiribam to Tupul.
