The 14th Maichou Ningshing Thouram (elderly scholar remembrance event) organised by Culture Preservation Centre was held today at Gandhi Memorial Hall with Wangjing-Tentha MLA P Brojen gracing the event as the chief guest and former Minister Ph parijat Singh presiding commemoration function.
Noting participation of elderly scholars of different indigenous communities at the event, MLA Brojen called upon the event host to sustain the momentum for promoting unity and integrity in the multi-ethnic Manipuri society.
As one of the special guests of honour, Imphal West Chief Medical Officer Dr S Bimolakumari Devi expressed that honouring departed and living scholars of different communities would be one of the most effective means to sustain the age-old relationships amongst the indigenous people.
The commemoration function began with the pena (traditional musical instrument) recital, observance of two minutes silence in honour of the departed scholars, offering floral tributes to their portraits and presentation of cultural items of different groups.
As a part of the function walking sticks were also presented to elderly participants.
Olympic medalist MC Mary Kom also attended the programme.
