Imphal, December 28 2009:
The 30th State Level Science Exhibition for Children was opened today at Bengali High School here.
The theme of the exhibition being organised by the Education Department in collaboration with NCERT is 'Science, Technology and Society'.
Altogether 53 exhibitors are participating in the exhibition which will continue till December 31 .
15 exhibitors and five other students selected from the exhibition would participate in the Eastern India Science Fair at Kolkata next year.
The opening function was graced by Education Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and Prof AK Manihar of Manipur University Chemistry Department as president.
Speaking at the occasion, Jayantakumar lamented that the education sector is in a critical condition because of the prolonged denial of education to students for no fault of theirs.
Observing that lesser number of students were participating in the exhibition, Jayantakumar said that the class boycott was one of the factor for the reduced number of participants.
He also expressed serious concern over non-participation of hill students in the exhibition.
He admitted that more needs to be done to promote science in hill districts.
Real integration can be realised only when the valley and the hills are equally developed.
The continued class boycott has dampened the spirit of young students when they need more encouragement considering the growing level of competition.
Unlike previous years, where participants were selected after conducting district level science exhibition in all districts, this time all interested students were allowed to take part in the State level exhibition.
