JN Dance Academy holds convocation

The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy today held its convocation which was marked by distribution of certificates and medals to the gold medalist students during 2000 to 2008 .
On the occasion Khu Khu Sarkar Gold Medal, Sabita and Mehta Gold Medal, Guru Gulapi Gold Medal, Lourembam Tombi Devi Gold Medal, Governor Gold Medal etc.
confer to the best students of dance, Sangskirt, Rash Dance and songs every year were distributed by the chief guest of the function, state education minister L Jayentakumar.
The function graced by the education minister, L Jayentakumar was presided over by former director of the academy, L Joychandra and current director Dilip Mayengbam attended as guest of honour.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, minister, L Jayentakumar while stating that the state is famous for its rich art and culture stressed the need of doing in-depth research in the field as many of the art forms as its indigenous originality and not mix with outside art forms.
Director, Mayengbam Dilip informed the gathering that the convocation was for the students of the academy in the last nine year from 2000 to 2008 .
The academy is awarding five gold medals in different categories to its students and all together 45 students are to award today but some students has to get two medals.
He expressed concern over the question of surviving the first art form of the state as now a day performing dance has become a rare occasion in the state.
In order to preserve the art form, he expressed his willingness to include a syllabus of dance in the schools through a policy of the government.
He further urged the state government to provide monetary assistances to the excellence performers of the state in the field of dance as a part of encouraging them.
The convocation was attended by many noted personality of art and culture.
