Imphal, December 21 2010:
Amidst growing protest of various organisations against violence on women, a young woman has been hospitalised after being assaulted by a security personnel.
All Manipur Students' Guardians' Association has strongly condemned the assault.
The incident reportedly occurred yesterday afternoon near SBI, Secretariat Branch.
The battered young woman has been identified as Konthoujam Geeta (27) d/o late Udoi of Konthoujam Maning Leikai.
She sustained injuries on her face and head and was admitted to JN Hospital for treatment.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Palace Compound office of All Manipur Students' Guardians' Association, injured Geeta informed that she had requested the security personnel who was in civil dress and was on duty at the time for entering to meet a staff in MOBC office.
But the security personnel tried to chase her out using harsh words.
That led to exchange of heated words from both sides for a while.
But all of the sudden, the security personnel started assaulting her.
Geeta further recalled that some of the officials who were present nearby intervened to stop the assault.
But she was not allowed to meet the staff she had come to meet.
Afterward, she was taken to JN Hospital by some people for treatment.
Geeta informed that a report describing the details of the incident has been submitted to Imphal Police Station today for taking up necessary action against the said security personnel.
If the Government and the police fail to take necessary action against the accused personnel, then the help of various civil organisations in the State would be sought for launching intense agitation, Geeta warned.
The working president of All Manipur Students' Guardians' Association Chaoba, who was also present at the occasion, informed that Geeta is one of the members of the Association.
The conduct of the security personnel who assaulted Geeta without any valid reason and with no respect for women deserved to be condemned strongly by all.
So, in order to ensure that such incidents are not repeated, the Government and other higher police officials would initiate necessary action against the accused security personnel.
