Imphal, December 21 2010:
Sounding a stern warning against all those who are allegedly taking an active role in staging surrender ceremonies, the banned UNLF has today stated that such a farce has become routine stuff in Manipur and no longer receives the attention of the people.
Coming to the point, the outfit in a statement said that Yumnam Panthung alias Romeo son of Yaima of Sugnu Turel Wangma Napat, who purortedly surrendered before the IG AR (S) and ADGP V Zathang at Mantripukhri, is a renegade who deserted the outfit seven years ago without completing even two years, as he was unable to keep up with the tough regimen of the outfit.
He deserted on October 2, 2003, said UNLF, giving details.
Since then the outfit had severed all ties with him.
This was not the first instance of the Indian Army staging such a drama, said UNLF and added that the M-16 purportedly given up by him does not belong to the outfit.
Even if he was pressured by the security forces to take part in the staged drasma, he and his family members should have had the gumption to expose the designs of the security forces and accordingly got in touch with the media, said UNLF.
However since Y Panthung has deemed it better to be a part of the drama enacted by the Indian Army, he will receive the due punishment as per the rules and regulations of the outfit.
