Renowned flutist Pandit Hariparasad
Chourasia performed as 'a curtain raiser' for the 4th International
Convention of SPIC MACAY today at the Central Agricultural
University (CAU), Iroisemba.
The Indian classical flutist was accompanied by well known
tabla artist Ram Kumar Mishra, flutist Vivek Sona and
Mandira Das for the concert which was attended by students
from various schools and colleges.
The event was organised by the SPIC MACAY Imphal
Chapter, Central Agricultural University, SSB Govt.Music
College, Dept of Art and Culture and Babina Health Care and
Hospitality Industries Pvt Ltd were the sponsors.
Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And
Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a non-political
nationwide voluntary movement that organises programmes of
classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts, yoga, classic cin-
ema screenings, heritage walks, etc inside school and college
campuses throughout the world to make students more aware
about Indian and world heritage.
This initiative makes educa-
tion more holistic and meaningful as it highlights all that is
abstract, subtle, inspiring and mystical in the world teaching
one to look within oneself.

Ibomcha said the annual 4th convention of SPIC MACAY is
scheduled to be held at IIT Guwahati from May 9 to May 15.
It is aimed to give a unique experience where participants get
to witness great artists performing classical music & dance,
folk and theatre.
2000 participants from 365 chapters of India and 56 chap-
ters from abroad are expected to take part in the 4th
international convention.
Several workshops will be held where the participants get
opportunity to learn the art form from the inspiring gurus.
The
day starts at 4 am where the participants do the naad yog
followed by hatha yog.
Crafts village is one special feature of
the convention where Master craftsmen teach the participants
about various crafts, he added.
