Meeting of MPs to discuss Population Stabilization

A meeting of Members of Parliament was convened by the 'Political Leader's Alliance in Child and Adolescent Health' (PLACAH), which is a registered organization of MPs working on issues related to child and maternal health.
The meeting took place on the occasion of International Women's Day on 8th March 2016, and was co-hosted by the 'Population Foundation of India' (PFI) that also provided technical support.
Shri J.P.Nadda, Hon'ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare addressed the meeting as the Chief Guest while Shri PD Rai and Dr.Sanjay Jaiswal, MPs and conveners of PLACAH moderated the discussions.

Key issues of population were discussed in the meeting including potential steps that can be taken for population stabilization and the role of MPs in the process.
Shri CK Mishra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Mission Director, National Health Mission gave a presentation on the status and challenges in Population Stabilization and the current interventions that the ministry is undertaking.
While stressing the importance for discussing population stabilization for securing the future of this country the MPs deliberated on effective means though which they could lead action on the issue in their respective constituencies.
The Hon'ble Minister stated that his Ministry would be working closely with MPs to further health objectives at the constituency level.
PFI assured MPs that it would be providing support to all MPs through constituency/district level data analysis, field visits and updates on the latest research in the field.
