Discussion programme on substance abuse held

As a part of awareness programme spearheaded by Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) to eradicate the hazard of substance abuse and drugs in different part of Manipur, Ingourok Football Club (IFC) in association with Ingourok Apunba Meira Paibee Lupand CADA Thoubal District Committee jointly organized a discussion programme on the topic "Impact of substance abuse on society and role of public in stamping out the menace" yesterday at Ingourok Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibee Laibung under Thoubal district.
The discussion programme was attended by Hijam Premkumar, president Igourok Football Club, Laishram Nirupama, ward member Lourembam gram panchayat, Hijam Priyokumar, president-in-charge CADA, Khundrakpam (o) Manglembi, senior member Ingourok Apunba Meira Paibee Lup, Leichombam (o) Thoibee, senior member Ingourok Apunba Meira Paibee Lup, Leikhram (o) Nandi, secretary Ingourok Apunba Meira Paibee Lup, Yumnam (o) Lukhoibee, president Ingourok Apunba Meira Paibee Lup as presidium members while secretary general Dipanjit Ningthoujam CADA spoke as a resource person in the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, secretary general CADA Thoubal district committee Sintha Laishram said that as parents want their children to be good at studies and obedient likewise children also want an ideal parent.
Ward member L Nirupama sought cooperation from the senior members of Ingourok for collective effort to keep the future generation away from the shadow of intoxicants and other contraband while adding that she will go all length to fight the pervasiveness of drugs in the society.
Secretary Leikhram (o) Nandini also said that the movement to uproot the existence of drug abuse and other health hazard substance is to save younger generation, brothers and husbands from the danger of substance abuse while adding that most of the male members of the family support the movement however we are also exposed to the danger posed by some crooked person who took it upon themselves and retaliate any time.
Therefore, women of the society should come together and stand united to ward off such illegal and immoral activities to impinge on our conscience.
President Yumnam (o) Lukhoibi expressed that due to stringent movement taken up by Meira Paibee there is zero presence of liquor vendor in Ingourok but at the same alleged that locals of Ingourok shifted their base and consumed liquor at the neighbouring Nonpok Sekmai Keithel due to easy availability of liquor.
She also appealed to the officials of Nongpok Sekmai Police Station to take up stringent measures to ban the sale of liquor in Nongpok Sekmai.
President CADA Hijam Priyokumar expressed happiness on hearing the news that there is no liquor vendor in Ingourok which is an exemplary example for others and added that other village should replicate the good work of Ingourok Meira Paibee to bring a better society.
President IFC Hijam Premkumar said that it is the duty of our generation to protect our future generation from the hazard of drug abuse and alcohol.
Speaking as a resource person, secretary general CADA Dipanjit Ningthoujam said that it is difficult to come out of the circle of substance abuse once the person got addicted while expressing apprehension on the alarming rate of substance abuser that has been increasing day by day due to widespread availability of drugs, alcohols and other contraband items.
He also said that combined effort both from the public and authority concerned is required to fight the danger of intoxicating substance that is enveloping our State gradually.
He also alleged that due to the failure of the authority concerned to award befitting punishment to the illicit drug traffickers, many offenders took drug trafficking as a profession to earn quick buck.
