Social Welfare Dept celebrates Children's Day

A Children's Day function was organised today at Bal Bhavan, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, by Social Welfare Department.
Speaking at the function, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai said, "It is our collective responsibility to honour the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's wish to care for the children and guide them so that they can grow up to be responsible citizens of the country" .
According to her, providing love and guidance to the children were the only ways of doing justice to the core idea of observing the birthday of the great leader late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Society should follow the footsteps of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, also known as 'Architect of Modern India' .
His vision of grooming children to be responsible citizens and uplifting the status of women should be put into action.
Social Welfare Department has been undertaking many projects for the benefit of women and children including even those who were still in their mothers' wombs, she pointed out.
The Minister also unveiled a bust of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and offered floral tribute.
S Saratkumar Sharma (Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights), Dr RK Kumarjit (Disability Commissioner) and Surrender A Shishak (Joint Director, Social Welfare) took part in the event as president and guests of honour respectively.
A painting competition was organised for three different categories and prizes were distributed to the winners as a part of the event.
The children also performed various songs, dances and cultural shows.
On the other hand, in commemoration of the Children's Day, Hijam Nutanchandra (Councillor of Imphal Municipal Corporation) distributed gifts and eatables to the children of Kabow Leikai Children Home in honour of his late mother-in-law, Ibemhal Leima and a feast was also organised for the children of the home.
