State level Kut 2016 celebrated on the theme 'Unity through Culture'

The largest festival of the Kuki-chin tribe, Kut festival, was celebrated in different parts of the State yesterday.
The State level Kut 2016 was celebrated under the theme "Unity through culture " at 1 st MR Ground yesterday with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh gracing the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the crowd, the Chief Minister said festival dates back to the period before the advent of Christianity.
Tribals in different parts of North East India and Myanmar celebrates the post-harvest festival.
In 1979, the traditional form of celebrating Kut was revived and now, it won't be wrong to state that Kut festival is among the most popular festival of the State, the CM said.
While asserting that the festival will help in the preservation of the traditions and culture of the Kuki-chin tribes, the Chief Minister said Kut celebration has an embedded message of peace and harmony among different communities.
The Chief Minister in his closing statements, wished that the festival brings peace and unity in the State.
Th Lokeshore Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly; D Korungthang, Minister (Health); MC Mary Kom, MP (Rajya Sabha); Hazi Abdul Salam, MP, Rajya Sabha; Dr Kh Ratankumar; M Okendro Singh, Minister (Education) and TN Haokip, President, MPCC, attended the function as guests of honour and president of the function respectively.
Display of various forms of Kuki-Chin dances and folk songs, Miss Kut 2016 contest and Kut Voice contest were the main highlights of the celebration.
Daisy Moirangthem won the title of Miss Kut 2016.Nenghoichong Haokip and Mutum Puja were the first and second runners up of the contest.
