The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat opposite DESAM office decrying the manhandling of DESAM President and four others by Singjamei police.
DESAM general secretary N Edison has set the November 4 deadline to take up action against the police personnel involved in the incident.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the protest, Edison said after the October 29 incident at MU, some of DESAM including president M Angamba were pulled up by Singjamei police team and kept in their.
He alleged that the volunteers were blind folded when they were pulled up and beaten black and blue with a stick in their custody.
"The police forced DESAM volunteers to lie down on the floor with their face facing downward and kicked them", Edison said while terming it as a 'third degree torture' .
Owing to the torture, DESAM volunteers underwent medical treatment, he added.
Edison has appealed to the State Government to take up appropriate action against the involved police personnel before November 4 else the alliance will launch various forms of agitation.
He has also urged Manipur University authorities to take a concrete decision regarding the October 29 incident.
