Imphal, November 02 2016:
Around five rooms of a house were gutted by a raging fire at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai at around 9 pm yesterday.
It is said that the fire might have broken out due to an electric short circuit from inside a rented room.
The house belongs to one Keisham Jaminikanta.
The fire also gutted a room occupied by one Keisham Jaminikanta and his family, and also his adjoining grocery shop.
Both the room and the grocery shop are on the ground floor of the house.
Three other rooms built with timber on the first floor were also gutted by the raging fire.
All the three rooms were rented out.
A team of Manipur Fire Services arrived at the scene at around 9.20 pm.
But one water tanker was found empty and one water pump set was also not working which evoked an uproar from the people gathered there.
Additional fire tenders arrived at the scene after a gap of 20 minutes.
But by the time the additional team arrived there, greater portions of the house were already reduced to cinders.
Although the exact monetary value of the goods destroyed has not been calculated, it is speculated that goods worth several lakhs have been destroyed.
