Bharat Nirman campaign in Thoubal concludes

Curtain for the three-day Bharat Nirman campaign in Thoubal was downed today with a solemn valedictory function held at Mini Secretariat Hall, Thoubal DC Complex.
Speaking at the occasion, Additional District Magistrate Thoubal, L Nabakishwar appealed to the masses to shun negative attitude and imbibe the culture of positivism.
He said the schemes and programmes are launched by the Government at the centre for giving direct benefits to the people living at the remote rural areas.
Since the implementation of MGNREGA too many playfields have appeared and village roads have been repaired in Thoubal District.
He said the fund for giving jobs to the unemployed under the MGNREGA is released through local bodies.
For the year 2012-13 Rs 71 crores has been sanctioned for giving jobs to job card holders of which Rs 44 have been released through 42 panchayats.
Under the IAY scheme 256 houses have been constructed in Thoubal District, he also said.
A massive plan is underway to develop wetlands in Thoubal District.
Four projects costing Rs 31.99 crores are being launched to develop the wetlands in Thoubal district.
In his presidential speech, M Kanankumar, chairman IMPCC, Manipur said no development programmes can be taken up unless there is active involvement of people.
He appealed to the masses to make themselves aware of the Government programmes.
Only when the people know what the Government is doing for them, the nation will move forward.
Kh Surnalata, Adhakshya of Thoubal ZP also attended the function as guest of honour.
Prizes were also given to all those stall owners as a part of the Bharat Nirman campaign.
The stalls were opened inside the mini secretariat hall of Thoubal DC complex.
The concluding function was marked by the presentation of cultural programmes by the artistes of Song and Drama Division, Imphal.
Earlier, speaking as a resource person of the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign organized by PIB, Imphal, P Sukumar, District Programme Manager, SSA, Thoubal district said that without people's help, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) cannot be successful.
Therefore, the people of Thoubal district should extend full co-operation to the authority.
Speaking on the implementation of SSA in Thoubal district, the resource person said, there are two blocks in the district, namely Thoubal block, with eight clusters and Kakching block, with four blocks.
As part of the programmes, Early Childhood Care (ECC) is taken up with a view to inculcate the habit of school going among children below six years.
Thus Anganwadi Centers are opened in different areas in collaboration with ICDS.
Teachers are given training on using computer in order to introduce computer aided learning in the schools besides free health check-up camps being held from time to time.
Text books are provided free of cost to the students.
In 2011-12, about one lakh text books were distributed to about 21,000 students.
Sometimes complaints are received on non availability of text books in time.
The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur has been asked to supply the text books in time.
Uniforms are also provided free of cost to boys belonging to ST/SC and BPL families.
But for girls, all are given uniforms free of cost.
Speaking on the implementation of Mid-day meal programme in Thoubal district, H Priyokumar, DI, Hqrs, Zonal Education Office, Thoubal said that mid-day meal programme covers 234 schools in Thoubal Distt having students in the group of class I to V and 23 schools in the same district having students from class VI to VIII.
310 cooks are used in Thoubal district, he also said.
The programme, which is a component of the flagship programme was launched by the UPA Government at the centre keeping two sections of the society in view.
They are weaker section and disadvantaged group.
The disadvantaged group consists of SC/ST, OBC and minority.
The weaker sections are those whose annual income does not exceed Rs 40000 .
Meanwhile, the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal is all set to organise a development fair�Vikas Mela and Saral Yojgar on February 23, 2013 in Thoubal with a view to attract youths who are looking for employment.
