Imphal, October 01 2015:
Newly appointed president of Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee L Tilotama was felicitated today at the residence of MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai under the aegis of the Thangmeiband Block Mahila Congress Committee.
Speaking at the gathering, Tilotama stated that Manipuri women have been taking key roles in many major issues of the State.
"However, I was left speechless as a politician when AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi questioned me about the dismal success rate of Manipuri women in electoral politics even though they are known for their perseverance and active engagement in many socio-economic and political issues", Tilotama said.
She then called upon the gathering which was largely comprised of women to start thinking and acting in order to ensure victory of Jyotin Waikhom who is preparing to contest the by-election to Thangmeiband A/C.She also asked the gathering to guess the varied ranges of development programmes that may be taken up in Thangmeiband A/C if the candidate belonging to the ruling party is elected.
Jyotin Waikhom too appealed to the womenfolk of his constituency to give him their mandate to represent Thangmeiband A/C in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The by-elections to Thangmeiband A/C and Thongju A/C would be an acid test for the Congress Government.
As such, all Congress men and supporters need to invest maximum efforts and energy, Jyotin said.
Thangmeiband A/C is compelled to go to by-election because the last MLA ditched the people despite being a novice in electoral politics which ultimately led to his disqualification.
He further appealed to all the people not to be misled by false propaganda floated by BJP about housing scheme.
