Older persons bring alive Tangkhul dying culture

The Tangkhul elders today showcased the dying Tangkhul traditional culture, which has been abandoned by the younger generation, at the observation of International Day of Older Persons at TNL ground, Ukhrul.
Performances like Tangkhul traditional fire making, Yung Khangva (carrying important materials of Tangkhul traditional house), Lengvai Kaphung (muscular youth carrying paddy from the field showing his strength), womenfolk grinding rice, traditional trumpet blowing, folk song, folk dance etc were shown before the gathering.
The Deputy Commissioner, who attended the function as the chief guest, expressed his gratitude to the older persons for their parental care.
He assured to assist them in their endeavour at his best level.
Advisor Dr Nelson Vashum urged the people to uphold and revive Tangkhul culture.
Tangkhuls are hard working, patient, generous and hospitable, he said and added that however all these cultures are losing slowly.
A symbolic performance of hokharai (weaving) was displayed at the function.
The chief guest handed over gift to oldest person Raringlui Shimzing (101) of Khangkhui Khullen.
More than 60 churches of Ukhrul district extended their support in organising the function.
Over 1000 elders of Ukhrul district attended the function.
