State observes International Day of Older Persons

Like the rest of world, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur observed the International Day of Older Persons on Thursday at Wangbal Community Hall of Thoubal district.
Speaking at the function as Chief Guest, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai said that people should be aware of the various schemes initiated for the weaker sections.
AK Mirabai claimed that Social Welfare Department has introduced many schemes meant for unborn child to old persons.
She also informed that the Government provides schemes for widows in upbringing their children.
Schemes in connection with rape victims have been introduced by the Government apart from distributing pensions to the aged under Manipur State Old Age Pension and Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA O Landhoni who also presided the function said that October 1 has been observed as International Day of Older Persons every year and everyone should take care of the senior citizens.
Social Welfare Director Rangitabali Waikhom gave the keynote address while Thoubal DC T Ranjit and Thoubal GP Adhyaksha Th Surnalata attended as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Senior Citizen Welfare Association, Mongsangei observed the day with District Welfare Office, Imphal West at Old Age Home Complex, Mongsangei.
The function was attended by former MP Rishang Keising and President of All Manipur Senior Citizen Welfare Association L Gourachandra Sharma as Chief Guest and President respectively.
