Imphal, August 01 2019:
The 14 hour State wide bandh called by the All Manipur Excavator Local Truck Tipper Owners and Workers Association, affected normal life in the State today.
As a result of the bandh, shops and business establishments at Khwairamband Keithel remained closed and much lesser number of people were seen at the market.
Inter-State and inter-district passenger services were also suspended due to the bandh and the roads remained empty except for some private vehicles and auto-rickshaws.
Attendance at State Government offices was also low.
On the other hand, bandh supporters blocked roads at various locations of Canchipur, Lilong Usoi-pokpi, Sangakpham and Yairipok.
However, there was no report of any unwanted incident and all flight services remained operational during the bandh.
On the other hand, the All Club Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM Lup) has urged all the Departments concerned of the State Government to adhere to the proper laws and regulation instead of just collecting royalty when it comes to sand mining and stone quarrying issue of the State.
A press release issued by the assistant IPR secretary of ACOAM Lup today mentioned that the only real solution to the issue is for the Departments concerned and the State Government to spread proper awareness among the people (particularly those involved in the profession) regarding the law of the land.
If not, the issue will blow up into an ugly mess, it warned.
