Imphal, August 01 2019:
As in many other parts of the State, paddy cultivation cannot be taken up till date over 10,000 hectares of Sabam Loukon, located near Kanghuchingjin Khullen village, Imphal East district due to acute shortage of water.
According to a press release issued by the Kanghu-chingjin Khullen Village Development Committee, paddy fields of Sabam Loukon remain quite dry even today and the farmers are staring at a nightmarish situation.
It then appealed to all paddy field owners not to demand their share of paddy yield (Loushal) this year.
The committee decried that the Government has so far not done anything to provide irrigation facility at Sabam Loukon which is located within Lamlai Assembly constituency.
Pointing out that the pipeline being constructed for drawing water from Tumukhong dam to Imphal passes through Kanghuchingjin Khunou, it urged the Government to construct an irrigation canal in the area to which certain volume of water can be diverted from the mega pipeline so as to irrigate the surrounding paddy fields.
It further appealed to the local MLA as well as all concerned Government authorities to look into the woes of farmers and take up remedial measures urgently.
