Edn Minister briefs HRD Minister on education scenario of Manipur

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam called on the Minister of Human Resource Development, India, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' at his office chamber, New Delhi, today and briefed him on the overall educational scenario of Manipur.
Radheshyam stressed on the need for appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor for Manipur University during the meet and the HRD Minister was also highlighted on the need to develop a good infrastructure for the educational institutions of the State, especially for the technical and higher education.
As a part of infrastructure development required for the education of the State, the Education Minister also appealed for strengthening the teachers training institutions of the State.
Radheshyam stated that the discussion initiated for setting up of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) with the HRD Minister was a success and a proposal will be soon put up.
The IISER is an Autonomous Institutions under MHRD, devoted to science research and education created with a vision encompassing creation of research centres of the highest calibre where teaching and education in the basic sciences are integrated with state-of-the-art research.
At present there are seven institutions located at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati.
The Minister also said that establishment of National Skill Training Institute, NSTI was approved during the meeting to review the 'Skill Development and Vocational Education initiatives in Northeastern Region' chaired by Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendranath Pandey.
He explained that the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has agreed to set up NSTI in Manipur for North Eastern region upon the assurance of the State Government to support in setting up of the institute.
He further added that with the establishment of the institution, shortage of facility for training the trainers will be solved.
Mention may be made that the meeting review was held on 27 July, 2019 at Guwahati, Assam.
Th Radheshyam also stated that compared to the preceding years, the budget for school education sector of Manipur has been increased by two fold this year.
He said that as approved by the Project Approval Board (PAB) of MHRD, the budget for School Education Manipur was increased by more than Rs 200 crore.
