"We had been planned to conduct a social service today under the supervision of local MLA O Henry.
The incessant rain has unexpectedly flooded many areas and we thought why not clean the Kongba basin as part of our pre-planned social service and ease the burden of the residents," he said.
He stated that people have been suffering every rainy season as the main drains located in and around the major areas of Imphal are not cleaned.
He added that main river tributaries flowing in the Imphal East need to be cleaned regularly to prevent flood during the rainy season.
Rain water of today's flooded areas are to flow into Kongba basin and then into Kongba river, he said and urged the people not to throw any waste in Kongba basin.
