Barely 20 days after the assembly of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) approved the resignation of Artax A Shimray from the post of the president, TNL vice president SD Reisang who is holding the office of the president submitted his resignation letter to the TNL secretariat office today.
The Tangkhul Naga Long is the apex customary body of the Tangkhul tribe.
SD Reisang tendered his resignation on moral ground and stated that his inability to lead the people as well as fulfil the public aspirations are indications that he does not have it in him to head the office of the TNL.
According to reports from the TNL office Reisang had officially offered his resignation last Saturday to the secretary of TNL.
Immediately, the matter was brought to the notice of the executive body of TNL and it was resolved to forward the resignation letter to the speaker of TNL for necessary official process under the Tangkhul customary law.
TNL speaker LM Abel will convene an emergency house assembly for a final consent for approving his resignation.
As the town folks have been reeling under pressure from various quarters, the resignation of the Vice President at this crucial stage has only added to the air of confusion.
Significantly, the United Naga Council had banned all works on National projects in Naga inhabited districts, vehicular movements and had also demanded the intervention of the Centre, Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending a resolution to the Indo-Naga issue as well as withdrawal of State security forces from the district.
