Imphal, December 02 2020:
The surge in the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is due to "late" admission of patients at hospitals, said a Government report.
A survey was conducted by a team led by the Health Director at Government and private hospitals and found 'late admission' of COVID- 19 patients as the cause for majority of the deaths, said an official of the Health Department.
Due to reasons, people do COVID-19 tests late and they come to hospitals when their conditions become critical.
Sometimes, people without symptoms do not know they are infected and avoid testing.
These are the reasons for the surge in the number of deaths.
Early testing and admission to hospitals and other health care centres may help avert further casualties, the official said.
Some people do not want to be admitted at hospitals as they suspect there are not enough beds in the ICU and COVID-19 care Centres.
Nonetheless, they should come to hospitals.
Even if all the beds are occupied at the hospitals, if the case is complicated, the authority will manage and treat the patients.
Early detection of the virus and admission at hospitals for timely treatment may save lives, added the official.
On Government doctors engaged in private hospitals, the official said the Health Department has started conducting surprise visits at some private hospitals and reports have been sent to the Government.
